Job Overview

The automated driving team is actively searching for Sensor Development Engineers to fill open positions for individuals specializing in automated driving sensors technologies. The candidate will be responsible for defining the functional requirements and the performance targets related to Automated Driving, in particular for video sensors, RADARs, LiDAR and ultrasonic sensors.

His main responsibilities will be:

Release of technical component specifications.

Evaluation of technical proposals from components’ suppliers.

Definition of validation test plans.

Management of the component development plan, ensuring the respect of technical deliverables at the expected due dates. The activity includes:

-Tracking of the validation activities and the related bug-fixes;

-Definition of countermeasures in case of issues and delays;

-Coordination of HW / SW releases for the component, ensuring the alignment with the validation activities.

-Approval of tests results and related deviations.

Leverage existing knowledge of physical-mathematical-statistical models of the sensors to effectively generate requirements for the overall environmental perception model, considering sensor data degradation and failure analysis.

Assist with setting architectural design direction enabling scalability and system cost optimization.

Optimization of the system design for in term of performance and communication bandwidth from sensors, defining requirements for object level data and raw data.

Basic Requirements :

Engineering Master’s degree in Electronic, Automation, Mechanic or Automotive Engineering.

Experience in authoring system/component level requirements oriented to supplier selection through tenders / competitive bids.

Experience in System Engineering, especially in the field of safety critical systems.

Basic knowledge of Driver Assistance systems, such as:

-Longitudinal control systems (Autonomous Emergency braking and Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Speed Assistance);

-Lateral control systems (Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Centering, Blind Spot and Active Blind Spot monitoring);

-Low speed maneuvering systems (Parking assistance, Semi and Full Autonomous Parking Systems, Rear and surround viewing systems);

-Driver monitoring systems.

Basic technical knowledge about the automotive development process.

Basic knowledge about electrical / electronic systems for Automotive (CAN / LIN networks, E/E architectures, functional safety analysis – ISO 26262 norm, etc.).

Knowledge of robust design techniques (FMEA, Design For Six Sigma).

Experience of Project management.

Excellent ability to work in a team and within a complex organization.

High sense of independence and self-responsibility.

Good knowledge of English language. It is required the ability to handle in English language both the release of technical documents and meetings with suppliers and FCA worldwide organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the development of Driving Assistance and Automated Driving systems, including in-vehicle activities and exposure to test drives / field Operation testing activities.

Knowledge of environmental sensing/machine vision technologies required for ADAS and Automated Driving systems inclusive of most of the following:

-Lane/object detection/classification;

-SOCs/antenna design/radomes/detectors/lenses, imager system technologies, image processing and data filtering techniques;

Understanding of sensor fusion techniques.

Knowledge of system requirements engineering required for automated driving inclusive of most of the following:

-Electrical and electronic architecture topologies;

-System functional partitioning;


-Failure analysis;

-Data collection / re-simulation through HIL / SIL techniques.

Knowledge about the main worldwide reference requirements in term of automotive Active Safety assessments / rating ( EuroNCAP, US-NCAP/NHTSA, IIHS);

Knowledge of tools for vehicle data analysis and logging (Canalyzer, CANAPE, ADTF,…)

Knowledge of localization techniques (SLAM, HD mapping, precision GPS, correction services integration)
